Remarks & Notes |
Ex Penn Central E8As (and a CNJ GP7) await the afternoon rush the day before New Years Eve. The South Amboy engine facility was heaven for covered wagon fans. At this point, the Es were all still all former Penn Central units (that would change soon). The local rails were ex PRR men and they called the E8As "EP22"s while the the E7As were "EP20"s . The EP22s were liked much more and I recall one railroad employee saying to me "Get your shots of the EP20s before we cut 'em up." This "EP22" originated life on rival New York Central in the Summer of 1953, and thus wasn't really an EP22 at all. |
