Remarks & Notes |
One of my favourite early photos of former SR Class W three-cylinder 2-6-4T No 31920 storming through West Norwood station in South London watched by waiting passengers at the foot of the climb to Crystal Palace with an un-fitted Battersea Wharf to Norwood Junction transfer freight. (for our overseas friends 'un-fitted' means a freight train without any brakes on the wagons once on the move and can only be stopped by the brakes on the loco and guard in his brake van (caboose) at the back of the train. |
