Remarks & Notes
An object in motion will stay in motion.... The holes in the nose of 2243 demonstrate Newton's 1st law of motion, an object in motion will stay in motion until acted upon by another force. 2243 was the 2nd unit on a runaway welded rail-train that was finally stopped by another force in the form of a parked train with crew awaiting a track warrant. The crew of the other train jumped out before the impact. Thus, the holes were created by rails that kept moving after the resulting collision. Click here to see how its mate, the CSXT 6473, faired in this collision. No one was injured in this runaway / derailment. Click here for the FRA report on this accident.
