| Wakefield MPD was a favourite haunt of mine. Easy to get to (12 miles from home), easy to get round (no awkward officials) and usually packed full of steam even at this late date. It was not unusual to have over 100 locomotives in the shed on weekends. Three 'Black 5' 4-6-0's and one of dozens of Wakefield's 'WD' 2-8-0's slumber at the south end of the depot. Talk about atmosphere - I can smell it now! |
