Remarks & Notes
A total of 192 NER '1001' class locomotives were built to Thomas Bouch's design from 1852 by both private manufacturers and the NER's own works at Darlington and Shildon. The last ten NER 1001's entered service in 1875. 1275 was retired in 1923, having covered an official mileage of 908,984 miles. She is a wonderful surviving example of the 'long boiler' design once commonplace on early railways.
