Remarks & Notes
From the 1830's onwards, Leeds in Yorkshire was one of the largest railway locomotive building cities in the world. Companies such as Todd Kitson & Laird (later Kitson's), John Fowler, Greenwood & Batley, Manning Wardle and Hunslet produced tens of thousands of steam, diesel and electric locomotives to satisfy industry in the UK and around the world. This modern (1950) 0-6-0 saddletank from Hunslet was one of their best-selling designs. In this case, bought by the National Coal Board but now preserved by the L&HR.
