A Union Pacific COFC approaches LATC, crossing Valley Boulevard, and passing Aurant Yard on the former Southern Pacific Daylight Route. In my three decades of railfanning, I've never been given as dirty a look as I got from the hogger on this train. The lead unit, while classified as an SD40-2 by UP, was actually a rebuilt ex SP SD39 (delivered 8/68 as 5302). It had been converted into an SD40-2 by NRE (part of a group of units they inherited from Precision National). It was returned off lease 4/02 and is now in CIT lease service.
