A late Capital Limited is seen here passing Carnegie Mellon University's Hamerschlag Hall. If the decorative spire on top of the building reminds you of a smoke stack, thats because it once was. When CMU was first opened it was too far from developed Pittsburgh to be on the power grid. As such, the university received coal from the B&O to this power plant. Each student was required to shovel coal for a semester to graduate. Ironically, the building now contains a 'clean room' in which microprocessors are made. |
