Having a just chased the eastbound Rio Grande Zephyr from the Front Range to near the Moffat Tunnel, a chance meeting at Tolland with a fellow photographer netted the line up for the day. After bidding farewell, I waited a short while for #100 to appear heading down the mountains to Denver, behind 3118 3021 3080 3059 and 3116, followed by a 105-car coal train. The fellow photographer was no other than Richard Loveman, co-author of "Never on a Wednesday", the classic book I was using for location ideas during my stay in Colorado.
