Remarks & Notes |
Built by the Baldwin Locomotive works in Philadelphia in 1876, the Jupiter was the Santa Cruz Railroad's third locomotive. The Jupiter was built for 36 inch narrow-gauge and became obsolete in 1883 when the short line switched to standard gauge and was sold to a railroad in Guatemala where it hauled bananas for more than 60 years. In 1976, it was donated to the Smithsonian as part of the bicentennial exhibition. The Jupiter was a gift of D.C. Transit, Inc. |
