| Benxi Steelworks' fleet of SY 2-8-2's were acquired from other areas and re-numbered into a 700 series. This portrait of 732 shows a typical duty, returning the large steel slag cauldrons from the tipping pit on the outer edges of the complex back towards the furnaces for refilling. Shuffling these cauldrons around the works was an essential, but menial duty for such powerful locomotives and well within their capabilities. There was a lot of track relaying going on during my visit as the unfinished section in the foreground indicates. |
