Another summer afternoon, another big storm dominating the skies above the Thunder Basin National Grassland. This particular storm actually began its day by tracking south-southeast towards Bill, skirting well to the west of my perch at Logan Hill. I watched it go by and thought I was safe until a passing train's engineer blew the "warning" horn message at me; upon looking out the rear of my Jeep I was surprised to discover that the cell had merged with another system and was now quickly moving back to the north... directly towards me. I ended up getting chased by it -- how odd for a railfan, being chased by something! -- for some 30 miles before slipping over to Highway 59 and sliding southward around its western flank. Shortly before making my escape, I captured this view from Hilight Road of an eastbound load rolling past the heart of the storm. Never a dull moment in the Powder River Basin...
