| The removed driving rods tell their own story. Barely two months earlier these two locomotives were in service. Now they stand forlornly on one of the side roads at Wakefield MPD, awaiting the inevitable cutter's torch. A sad sight on what was otherwise a bright and sunny day. The backdrop is Wakefield's coal-fired power station. All in this scene has passed into history, the site is now populated by silver birch trees and brambles. Half-buried bricks and broken concrete are the only reminders of man's endeavours and they too are fast disappearing in the undergrowth. |
