Remarks & Notes |
Where it all started! Built in 1919 Climax #6 spent most of her life as the road engine for the Moore Keppel & Co hauling logs out of the nearby woods until the mill closed in 1946. It was then used as standby power on the coal hauling Middle Fork Railroad before being retired in 1960. Climax 6 was one of the last commercially used Climax's in the United States. The Cass Scenic Railroad purchased her in very poor shape in 1970 and it was hoped to have her in operation for the 1973 season. During the early part of her restoration a major shop fire took out the Historic shop. This ended any restoration attempt until the Mountain State Railroad and Logging Historical Association took over the project in 2000. Refer to photo id 299602 to see how she looks now.
