Remarks & Notes

The Tay Bridge is the longest railway bridge in the UK at just over two miles. The structure seen here is the second attempt at bridging the estuary, the first famously collapsed during a violent storm, killing seventy two people on December 26 1879. Then - like now - the river was bitterly cold with large ice floes floating downstream.
