The Missabe Yellowstones were among the most advanced steam locomotives ever built; nearly every feature was modern, and the whistle lever was no exception. There was no pull rope for the whistle. Instead, Baldwin fitted the 2-8-8-4s with a brass lever mounted waist-high on the cab wall. This is the one on the fireman's side of 227, the "whistle" stamping nearly worn away from its many years of service.
