Another site I visited frequently was Pine Junction, a very busy location in Gary, IN. It was a junction between two different Baltimore & Ohio Chicago Terminal Railroad subdivisions, the New York Central (Lake Shore & Michigan Southern), Elgin, Joliet & Eastern, Baltimore & Ohio and South Chicago & Southern Railroads. It was also the eastern gateway to the B&OCT, which started westward from here.
Shown in this photograph is a westbound piggyback train, led by Western Maryland GP40-2 4362. It leads five other motors westbound as it leaves B&O rails and enters the B&OCT on its Barr Subdivision. There was an interlocking tower here (NERO) and lots of traffic--and mosquitos!
