Following on from my Erie 0-8-8-0 Camelback here is a Pennsylvania & Reading Railroad camelback 4-4-0. The reason for the position of the cab was that the wide Wotton firebox designed to burn anthracite did not allow room for the cab in the normal place. Note the twin firebox doors to enable the fireman to spread the fuel evenly. I have no idea of the date this loco was built but it appears to have a Baldwin works plate or where the photo was taken. From a whole plate glass negative.
