Chesapeake & Ohio K4 Class 2-8-4 2716 was one of a group of 26 built by Alco in 1944. She had 69" drivers, 26 x 34 inch cylinders, operated at 245 psi boiler pressure, and developed up to 69,368 lbs of tractive effort. She was retired from active service by 1957. In 1981, fresh from a rebuild by the Norfolk Southern Steam Shop, C&O 2-8-4 2716 was the power for the Autumn Leaves Special, an excursion that ran from Atlanta to Toccoa, Georgia, a distance of about 100 miles each way. This image was taken at Toccoa, Georgia as C&O 2716 waited for the highball to return to Atlanta.
