SP 1 had arrived back at Owenyo on a standard gauge flatcar from the San Joaquin division shops at Bakersfield following an overhaul and what looks like a fresh paint job. SP 9, shown here helping to unload No. 1, has been the backup locomotive on SP's narrow gauge line during the diesel's absence. Shortly after unloading No. 1, No. 9 will make one more trip to Keeler and return while the diesel is being prepared for service, and that would be the end of steam in any kind of regular revenue freight service on the SP. In less than a year the narrow gauge line would be abandoned. SP 9 is now stuffed and mounted at the railroad museum at Laws, and if my information is correct SP 1 is at a copper mine in Cananea, Mexico and apparently converted to standard gauge. Another one of those old faded Anscochromes brought back to life by Photoshop.
