Remarks & Notes
A Buffalo & Pittsburgh extra bound for D&I Silica in Sheffield, PA passes on its way through Clarendon, PA with seven carloads of silica sand for use in "fracking" gas wells. The rise of the Marcellus Shale has led to an increase in traffic on the Allegheny & Eastern Sub, most of which is due to frac sand. An interesting note is the first hopper behind the two lead engines; it is still painted and lettered for the C&O!
