And my vote for world's worst livery goes to... DFT 7023 heads the Picton-bound TranzCoastal passenger right onto the beach beside the Pacific Ocean. It wears the horrid faded-vomit paint scheme applied under a fairly brief period of ownership by Australian company Toll. Believe it or not, it looked even worse with Orange "Toll Rail" logos on the side, but that is now thankfully patched over with a red and gray Kiwirail banner.

Trains on 3' 6" (1.067m) track from Whangarei to Bluff with virtually heritage rebuilt EMD and GE locomotives still the mainstay power. The network was privatized in 1990's and operated by Toll until 2008 when state owned KiwiRail was established.
