RARE MILEAGE. The MA&N does not frequently serve Lyons Falls, New York these days; the major shipper here, Lyons Falls Pulp & Paper, closed down a decade ago. However, another nearby mill, Burrows Paper, is using an old warehouse to transload inbound goods from rail to truck. Here, #805 has just pulled four empties from the mill and has coupled back on to the one load it brought up from Utica. The crew will shove the one load back to the warehouse (around a curve, behind the train), pull the empties into the clear, and then run around the empties for the return trip. The track here remains in excellent condition, making for a speedy trip back to Utica, almost exactly 45 miles by rail to the south. Thankfully, the MA&N never gave up on operations to Lyons Falls, making moves such as this one possible. The MA&N is part of the Genesee Valley Transportation family of roads.
