Remarks & Notes
UP5678 leads a westbound unit coal train compass south at Juab siding, Utah. The location is on UP’s Sharp Subdivision near the town of Levan, Utah. Visible just to the left of the 5678 is the coal loadout at Sharp, Utah. Sharp loads coal from the SUFCO mine, which is the largest coal mine in Utah. 5678’s train did not load at Sharp, however. It loaded at the Savage Coal Terminal on UP’s Castle Valley Spur in Carbon County near Price, Utah. It’s destination is unknown to me; maybe the IPP plant, or Moapa, NV or perhaps for export. 11,928’ Mount Nebo is in the background, its image distorted by the engines exhaust on this very cold day.
