Utah Ry #5005, an MK5000C model, and 4 other URy units lead a loaded coal train up Utah’s Price River Canyon. The location is the horseshoe curve just below Kyune. Out of sight and around the corner is a mid train helper set. The train was traveling much slower than usual and after taking this shot and leaving for home I found out why. One of the helper units, 6062, had blown a turbo on the climb and was shut down. Radio talk between the head end and helper crew indicated that the unit was making lots of black smoke and there was oil everywhere inside the long hood. Too bad I didn’t stick around for the helpers to pass me here, but the sucker hole in the clouds that allowed this sunny shot closed up and the picture would have been pretty dark, so I left before the sick helpers showed up.
