Remarks & Notes

Rim Ridin'. A Denver & Rio Grande Western Mixed Train tip-toes along the rock ledge above the Rio de las Animas as she heads south toward Rockwood Station. Although the famous horseshoe curve is the most well-known photo spot, the High Line at Rockwood actually extends for about 2 miles as it winds its way around the rim of the Animas Gorge. This particular spot is a few hundred yards compass east of the horseshoe and the ledge faces southeast. The sun-lit shot you see here is only possible in the morning and since the regular Silverton Trains run northbound during those hours, it is impossible to do except on a charter, such as the Willow Creek Productions event that produced this one!
