The November 11, 1978 Southern Steam Special ran from Birmingham to Sheffield, Alabama, a distance of about 130 miles each way. The power was Texas & Pacific I-1a Class 2-10-4 610. T&P 610 was built in June 1927 by the Lima Locomotive Works. She has 63 inch drivers, 29×32 in Cylinders, operates with 255 lbs of boiler pressure and can develop 84,600 pounds of tractive effort. This image was captured at a photo runby that was held south of Sheffield.
