Remarks & Notes
Northbound Amtrak No. 174, the Colonial," was whipping up the snow as it rounded the curve at Laurel, VA on March 3, 1978, led by F40PH No. 273. No. 174 was the first train to offer a morning departure from Newport News and Richmond and a late afternoon departure from Washington, perfect for those wanting to do a days business in the nation's capital. It was a success right from the start .

With Northeast Regional trains, Auto Train and long distance service to Florida, New Orleans and Chicago, a lot of train riding and train watching can be had.
