Remarks & Notes
This photo from my collection was taken by the late Don King, a portrait studio photographer from my old home town of Appalachia. This is the "General" arriving in the afternoon after its last leg of the day from Big Stone Gap. I'm on board Jim Crow combine 665 on the rear platform, out of sight. We have pulled around the wye and are backing into position on the back leg where the combine will be opened up for visitors (there was a great display in the middle baggage section). I wrote a short story titled "Sour Notes for a 4-4-0" on this event that ran in the December 1985 issue of Trains Magazine.
