Remarks & Notes
The Peninsular Railfans Club promoted a trip on the Atlantic Coast Line on May 1, 1949. The trip was headed by ACL 4-6-2 427, one of 45 P-3 Class locomotives built in 1914 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works. She had 69" drivers, 22 x 28 inch cylinders, boiler pressure of 200 lbs, and produced 33,389 lbs of tractive effort. The round trip originated in Tampa and ran east to Lakeland; then headed north to Rainbow Springs. A stop at the Lakeland roundhouse and terminal was included and numerous photos were exposed at various stops along the way. This George Pettengill image from my collection was taken at a photo runby along the route. Note the Speed Graphic camera that the man in the foreground is using, a popular camera of the era.
