Remarks & Notes
CSX is in the process of rebuilding the bridge over the Mohawk River between MP QG 40.5 and MP QG 40.7 The small amount of grey on the right is the south (east) approach span which has been replaced on Oct 24th. The 2 center spans will remain. In Spring 2012, the 2 north (west) approach spans will be replaced with the same gray thru girder structures as used on the south spans. Tropical Storms Irene and Lee flooded this entire work zone and pushed the completion of this project into 2012. Because the Erie Canal/Mohawk River is currently not navigable due to dam & lock damage and resulting low water levels, the barges required to replace the north spans can not be used. The floods were of historic proportions and reached at or near the bottom of the center spans. Picture of new span to follow. Taken from public property on Rt 5s.
