A string of nearly 20 SD40-2's eligible for the SD50-3 and now SD40-3 program set in storage along the Huntington lead of the CSX Huntington Locomotive Shops. By July of 2010, there would be nearly 50 locomotives in storage, evident by the photo linked, HERE. Notice how CSXT 8871, pictured above has just received a fresh YN3 "Dark Future" paint, but was not able to display it on the road, prior to her placement in storage.
This is dedicated (with permission) to the skilled and gifted photographer - Chase Gunnoe - who regularly posts and is on staff with RP. I believe he deserves a gallery showcasing his remarkable photos. This is for you Chase! (More great photos to come!)
There are times when many engines, cars or cabooses are concentrated in a location. Such sites are for storage, economic reasons, active power needs or for rebuilding. For others, wear and tear have brought their usefulness to and end.
