In contrast to its big brother, the "Churchill-Pfeil" RAe 4/8 (yes, named after Winston Churchill), the RAe 2/4 1001 of SBB Historic is a rare sight. The "Red Arrows" were built in the 1930s and originally intended for regular passenger use, but they were so popular that they had to be replaced by conventional locomotive-hauled trains for capacity reasons. Today, a trip with one of the "Red Arrows", although expensive, is a popular birthday present even for non-railfans.
In this picture, RAe 2/4 1001 is crossing Lake Zurich over the Seedamm with a birthday party who booked a trip around Lake Zurich.
