Remarks & Notes
Q211 was split into two trains today, and this is S211, the other half, pouring on the coal as she gets a rolling start at the 1.8% grade of Cumberland Mountain. The GE 44 tonner is the former NC&StL 100, which has the distinction of being the first locomotive to ever be outfitted to operate by remote control. It was later changed back to manual control. The yellow depot in the background was built in 1904, and is now the home of the Cowan Railroad Museum
