Remarks & Notes |
The Blue Train is one of South Africa's premier luxury trains (the other being Rovos Rail). Its origins date back to 1923 when the 'Union Limited' and 'Union Express' luxury trains were introduced between Johannesburg and Cape Town. In 1946, a blue and grey air-conditioned all-steel coach set (delivered in 1938) was put into service, giving the train its new popular (and official) name. A completely new modern set was built in South Africa in 1972 and was totally revamped and relaunched in 1997. The 'Blue' is seen here two hours out of Cape Town on its northbound journey, passing through the scenic Tulbagh Kloof.
