| Fresh from battling snow on Donner Pass, SP SD9E No. 4348 idles at the engine facility in Roseville Yard. The big metal framework that juts upward from its cab is an icicle breaker; the unit would break off icicles that had formed in the many tunnels and snowsheds on Donner Pass before they did damage to equipment, including dome cars on Amtrak's San Francisco Zephyr. |
