Two Mitsubishi-built diesels -- 1013 and 1021-- of the Empresa Ferroviaria Andena S.A., FCA, have a heavy ore train under control at Avaroa, Bolivia en route to Chile for export, two containers per flat car, each riding right over the car trucks. The unique locos have three trucks, and the center truck slides left or right to negotiate curves or switches. We're at an elevation of 12,214-ft. in the extraordinarily dry Atacoma desert on Aug. 14, 2008.
