A train of empty L&N hoppers rolls downgrade into Appalachia across Powell River (distance bridge), and the L&N's Cumberland Valley Division main line. Local kids referred to the swimming hole beneath the river bridge as "concrete"--a name, no doubt, that came from the huge concrete bridge foundations on either side of the river. The 24 was purchased second hand from the N&W and used mainly on "Hill Crews" taking tonnage to Miller Yard, VA and a connection with the Clinchfield.
