Remarks & Notes
On an overcast spring day in 1983, Burlington Northern coal trains meet at Palmer Lake, Colorado. At right is a loaded train from Wyoming's Powder River Basin, throttling up to continue its southward trek after the passage of the northbound empty train at left. Leading both trains are five unit consists of second generation General Electric and Electro-Motive Division six-axle locomotives.
