A gloomy fall day along the Powder River. Sumpter Valley's fall photo train slowly chugs east from Sumpter station toward its next stop in McEwen, about 5 miles down the track. The mixed consist today includes a couple of flats, a former D&RGW tanker in White Pass livery, a former D&RGW wooden box car, a former Utah & Northern Railway Coach and a caboose, whose origins are unknown to the SVRy. It is interesting that over the years, the reconstructed railway has acquired a variety of equipment that served other lines, but several pieces of their own equipment also survive. Right now, those pieces are in other places, notably at White Pass in Alaska. One of the dreams of the Sumpter Valley crew is to someday see their native rolling stock repatriated to its home state of Oregon.
