Sure there is the unique MLW/Alco locomotives, but when one envisions BCRail there's usually an image of rugged mountain scenery on steep grades clinging the rocky hillside of a dramatic river canyon or lake, with a mile long train of forest products in tow. However, in the far northern reaches of the British Columbia interior on the east side of the Rocky Mountain Range, the prairie begins and stretches north to the Yukon and east to Manitoba. Seen here near Murdale, the Fort Nelson Local is returning from Fort Nelson some 235 miles due north and is just outside of Fort St. John in a scene easily recognizable as Kansas. Not all is lost with one's perception of the Cariboo Road though as this train IS hauling mostly forest products.
