Built for the Alaska Railroad in the August of 1983 with the original road number pictured above, former ARR 2803 now operated by US Rail sits tied down near the former C&O scale house in the South Charleston Yard. Built to operate through extreme cold and heavy snow, these locomotives were delivered with snow plows, ladders in the place of steps, an additional externally mounted roof headlight, an L shaped engineers window, and another characteristics that make these locomotives unique and distinctive in their own right.
