Burlington Northern 975325, a 25-Ton American model 5030DE crane was likely built in February of 1991 as a self-powered locomotive crane. Fitted with either a 426 cubic inch Detroit Diesel model 71 at 145 horsepower @ 1600 rpm, or an optional 743 cubic inch Cummins Model N-855 at 150 horsepower @1600 rpm. This self powered crane could move in either direction up to 14 mph with standard traction motors, or 16 mph with optional 115 hp motors. The maximum tractive effort was 24,000 lbs. The 50 foot boom arm with hook attachment could lift up to 80,000 pounds with outriggers set.
Today, 975325 is being scrapped at Pacific Coast Shredding in Vancouver, WA. At the end of its life, it has been stripped of its 50 foot boom and clam shell attachment. BN 961452- a crane tender flatcar was nowhere to be found. Perhaps it will meet a similar fate another day?
