Eastbound freight led by Southern Pacific SD40M-2 No. 8668 departs a plugged Hoisington Yard at Hoisington, Kansas, on September 3, 1995. Two more eastbounds wait on the adjoining tracks for new crews. This former Missouri Pacific route between Herington to Pueblo was formerly operated by Rio Grande to gain access to Kansas City, and became a link in SP’s central corridor. Today, with two segments of the route torn up and abandoned, this yard and crew change point is a lot quieter!
