Amtrak No. 3, the Southwest Chief, is climbing Glorieta Pass at Glorieta, New Mexico, on May 20, 1999. Apparently some power issues further east on the trip has required the assistance of a Burlington Northern coal motor; EMD SD60M No. 9276 to be exact. Besides the 9276, four Amtrak P42DCs play follow the leader “elephant-style,” with Nos. 33, 45, 5 and 8 all tagging along on the 22-car train.
