Remarks & Notes
On 17 January 1925, the Compagnie des Chemins de Fer de l’Est took delivery of their first high-speed locomotive at the Epernay works, the 241 A1, number 41 001. The engine they acquired provided them with greater adhesion for hauling heavy goods trains, which was perfectly suited for the first all-steel heavy passenger carriages. It was the first “Mountain” type steam locomotive in Europe. It was equipped with 4 drive axles linked by connecting rods and was designed to haul fast heavy trains on the Paris-Belfort line. It was in service in eastern France for the SNCF until 1959. (Source: Cité du Train)
