Remarks & Notes

Amtrak leased a fleet of 15 GP40s from Helm Financial Corporation. AMTK 653 is pictured laying over at the Rio Grande depot in Salt Lake City, pending a nocturnal departure on the Desert Wind later that evening. The 653 was built by EMD for the New York Central in Oct. 1967.
