Today - July 23rd 2013 - Union Pacific announced that it had successfully negotiated the acquisition of its former 4-8-8-4 'Big Boy' steam locomotive 4014 from current owners, the Southern California Chapter of The Railway and Locomotive Historical Society. The locomotive will be relocated to Cheyenne, Wyoming, where it will be restored to running order by 2019 as the largest operating steam locomotive on the planet. Here the mammoth interior the 4014's cab is seen during the last few months of its residence at the Chapter's Rail Giant Museum at Fairplex, Pomona, California. If I'm ever lucky enough to stand in this cab again, there'll be a fire in it's belly.
