No Way Out. Ex-UP GP40M-2 rests forlornly at Jacumba, CA on the former San Diego & Arizona Eastern Railway which was once the Southern Pacific's gateway into San Diego. Vandalism and natural disasters have, over time, rendered sections of this line (once dubbed "The Impossible Railroad" due to the number of trestles and tunnels required to traverse the harsh, mountainous desert terrain through which it passes) unserviceable. In the wake of several recent trestle fires, tunnel fires and washouts, Jacumba is now an island unto itself, unreachable from either Plaster City to the east, or Campo from the west.
