Remarks & Notes

Before there were centerbeam bulkhead flat cars, lumber was nervously shipped aboard standard 40-ft. flat cars. The loads were always vulnerable to shifting and being set out and delayed to be compressed back into accepted form. These loads of Oregon products were on an SP extra east climbing Tehachapi grade at Bealville, Calif. on July 4, 1976. The mid-train helpers are in the background.
